The House of Reconciliation

The House of Reconciliation

I spent last week in a small town called Berekfurdo, in Hungary, at the invitation of the Council for World Mission (CWM). I was attending a conference on the subject of 'The Gospel in a Secularised Society' with around 50 delegates from across Europe. There were also some guests from Asia and Africa to give their perspective.

The general consensus seems to be that the growing secularisation of the world (where the Church can no longer claim a position of power and often little influence) can be seen as an opportunity rather than a threat.

We were hosted by the Reformed Church of Hungary at their House of Reconciliation. One of the highlights was an evening soak in hot thermal baths under the moonlight! Another was the worship in the chapel, where Brother Richard from Taize shared the Taize experience with us, as did brothers from the Serbian Orthodox  Church and other members of CWM.

A wonderful experience and an opportunity to meet with people passionate about mission from very different places in the world.
